Apple Mail has made setting up Gmail and Yahoo! mail accounts easier, but in doing so it made setting up plain old IMAP accounts more difficult. To help, we’ve created a macOS configuration profile that should make setup a little easier. A configuration profile is kind of like a script that makes the necessary system and application settings for you.

After exporting old email from your old email app with Emailchemy’s email converter and converting it to Emaichemy’s IMAP format, try this:

  1. Download the Emailchemy IMAP.mobileconfig file
  2. Start Emailchemy’s IMAP server
  3. Double-click the Emailchemy IMAP.mobileconfig file
  4. Click Install
  5. Go back to Mail and into the Preferences, Accounts tab
  6. Select the Emailchemy Import account
  7. Click Server Settings tab
  8. Click Advanced IMAP Settings
  9. Check the “Allow Insecure Authentication” box
  10. Click OK
  11. Click Save
  12. Restart Mail (quit and relaunch)
To remove the account, remove the Emailchemy IMAP profile.
  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click the Profiles icon (check mark)
  3. Select Emailchemy IMAP profile
  4. Click the minus/subtract button at the bottom of the profile list
